ASA Early Career Professional Award

Deadlines:
Award, Fellow, and Scholarship nominations initiated by April 09, 2013
Reference Letters and Final Nomination submission by April 17, 2013

The ASA Early Career Professional Award recognizes professionals who have made an outstanding contribution in Agronomy within seven years of completing their final degree (BS, MS, PhD). The award consists of a certificate and $2,000 honorarium.

Eligibility
  1. Nominees must have completed their terminal degree within seven years of the award date.
  2. Nominees are required to be a member of ASA.
  3. Nominees must be living at the time of their nomination.
  4. Nominators are not required to be members of ASA.
  5. Teams are not eligible to be nominated.
Evaluation
  1. Evidence of quality teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
  2. Effectiveness in extension and outreach activities.
  3. Significance and originality of basic and/or applied research.
  4. Achievements in private sector application of agronomy, crop and/or soil science.
  5. Contributions to the public or professional organizations and institutions.

    ASA Membership Number (Character Limit: 6)
  4. Narrative
    Nominator letter to introduce the nominee and rationale for nominating the candidate. (Character Limit: 6000)
  5. Teaching Contributions
    Give percentage of time or weight (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100. Assigning zero to one or more qualifications will not weaken the nomination; enter "0%" or "zero weight" if it is not applicable to the nominee.). Document number of courses taught, advising of undergraduate and graduate students, evaluation of teaching effectiveness, other related teaching activities (document above with number of courses taught, number of students taught and advised, and summary of student and peer evaluations), awards or recognition received, and teaching grants (proposals written and funding received). (Character Limit: 4500)
  6. Extension and Service Contributions
    Give percentage of time or weight (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100. Assigning zero to one or more qualifications will not weaken the nomination; enter "0%" or "zero weight" if it is not applicable to the nominee.). Listing and evaluation of extension activities, listing and evaluation of other service activities, awards or recognition received, and extension/outreach grants (proposals written and funding received). (Character Limit: 4500)
  7. Research Contributions
    Give percentage of time or weight (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100. Assigning zero to one or more qualifications will not weaken the nomination; enter "0%" or "zero weight" if it is not applicable to the nominee.). Listing and evaluation of basic and/or applied research activities, other related research activities, awards or recognition received, and research grants (proposals written and funding received). (Character Limit: 4500)
  8. Contributions to Private Sector
    Give percentage of time or weight (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100.   9. Contribution to the Public and Professional Organizations
    Give percentage of time or weight (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100. Assigning zero to one or more qualifications will not weaken the nomination; enter "0%" or "zero weight" if it is not applicable to the nominee.). Include memberships, positions and accomplishments in professional societies, universities, non governmental organizations, government agencies, and others, e.g., service to the Early Career Member Committee and the Societies. List any awards or recognition received in this category. (Character Limit: 4500)
  10. Professional Publications
    Describe the nominee's technical or nontechnical publications, patents, and efforts to develop or improve programs, practices, and products. List up to 12 of the most significant professional contributions of the nominee. (Character Limit: 4500)

Note: Monitor these three letters online under "Nominations" as you will need to log in and submit the completed nomination containing the three reference letters.
