Hank Beachell Future Leader Scholarship

The Hank Beachell Future Leader Scholarship was established in recognition of Dr. Beachell's commitment to advancing the knowledge of agriculture through his work in rice breeding and development. The purpose of this scholarship is to expand the agricultural knowledge of undergraduate students participating in activities that enhance their university studies. This scholarship is made possible by a gift from Hank Beachell to the Agronomic Science Foundation, and it is administered by the American Society of Agronomy. Two scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $4,000 each.

Eligibility
  1. The applicant will have completed at least their sophomore year by the end of the 2012 spring term.
  2. Students majoring in agronomy, crop science, soil science, or other related disciplines are eligible.
  3. Preference will be given to those who are members of student clubs affiliated with the Students of Agronomy, Soils, and Environmental Sciences.
  4. The applicant will use some of the scholarship funds during the scholarship year to gain experience in agronomic areas in which he/she is unfamiliar. Examples: Participating in activities such as visiting an International Agricultural Research Center, traveling and studying agriculture in a foreign country, expanding agricultural experience in the U.S., etc.
  5. The activity can be conducted at a time convenient to the recipient, but should be completed on or before Aug. 31, 2013. The activity should be for a minimum of four weeks.

Nominee Qualifications:

  1. Current School
  2. Department Name
  3. Letter of Interest
    Provide a letter of interest that includes identifying the activity the recipient will pursue, including location, brief description, activity dates, and the cost of travel expenses between the applicant's home base and the scholarship experience site. (Character Limit: 3000)
  4. Resume
    Provide a resume that includes major, year in school, and cumulative grade point average. (Character Limit: 6000)

Add References To Nomination

Provide contact information (name, full mailing address, phone, and email) for three individuals who will submit online reference letters.

Note: Monitor these three letters online under "Nominations" as you will need to log in and submit the completed nomination containing the three reference letters.
