Marion L. and Chrystie M. Jackson Soil Science Award

The Marion L. and Chrystie M. Jackson Soil Science Award is designed to recognize a mid-career soil scientist who has made outstanding contributions in the areas of soil chemistry and mineralogy. This award is supported by gifts from Dr. and Mrs. Marion L. Jackson to the Agronomic Science Foundation and administered by the Soil Science Society of America. The award consists of a certificate and $2500 honorarium.

Eligibility

  1. Nominators are required to be SSSA members.
  2. The award is intended for persons in mid-career, defined as the period between 10 and 25 years after receipt of the nominee’s final academic degree.

Evaluation

  1. Significance and originality of basic and/or applied research in soil chemistry/mineralogy.
  2. Excellence in creative reasoning and skill in obtaining pertinent data.
  3. Quality of teaching soil chemistry/mineralogy at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
  4. Total impact of contributions on soil science and other fields, nationally or internationally, as well as on society at large.

  4. Research Contributions
    Give percentage of time spent (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100. Assigning zero to one or more qualifications will not weaken the nomination; enter "0%" or "zero weight" if it is not applicable to the nominee.). Provide a listing and evaluation of basic and/or applied research activities with emphasis on significance, originality. Provide other related research activities. (Character Limit: 4500)
  5. Teaching Contributions
    Give percentage of time spent (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100. Assigning zero to one or more qualifications will not weaken the nomination; enter "0%" or "zero weight" if it is not applicable to the nominee.). Describe teaching contributions: (a) Courses taught, (b) Advising of graduate and undergraduate students, and (c) Evaluation of teaching effectiveness as documented by the number of courses taught, number of students taught and advised, and summary of student and peer evaluation. (Character Limit: 4500)
  6. Service to the Profession
    Describe service to the profession outside the Society such as appointed positions, elected positions, other service to professional organizations. (Character Limit: 3000)
  7. Membership
    List membership in professional, honorary, and academic societies. (Character Limit: 1500)
  8. Honors and Awards
    List honors and awards received (Character Limit: 3000)
  9. Professional Contributions
    Describe the nominee's technical or nontechnical publications, patents, and efforts to develop or improve programs, practices, and products. List up to 12 of the most significant professional contributions of the nominee. (Character Limit: 4500)
  10. Evaluation
    Summarize in this section the primary contributions on which the nomination is based. Give the nominees contributions and their impact in one or more of the evaluation criteria given in the Award Description and criteria sections, clearly and explicitly (Character Limit: 3000)

Provide contact information (name, full mailing address, phone, and email) for three individuals who will submit online reference letters.
