Young Crop Scientist Award

Deadlines:
Award, Fellow, and Scholarship nominations initiated by April 09, 2013
Reference Letters and Final Nomination submission by April 17, 2013

This award is designed to recognize young crop scientists who have made an outstanding contribution in any area of crop science by the age of 40. The award consists of a certificate and $1000 honorarium.

Eligibility

  1. Nominees will be 40 years of age or less as of Dec. 31, 2012.
  2. Nominees must be living at the time of their nomination.
  3. Nominees are required to be members of CSSA.
  4. Nominators are not required to be members of CSSA.
  5. Teams are not eligible to be nominated.

Evaluation

  1. Quality of teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
  2. Effectiveness in extension and service type activities.
  3. Significance and originality of basic and applied research.
  4. Effectiveness in administrative activities.

    List courses taught. (Character Limit: 1500)
  6. Advising
    Number of students taught and advised. (Character Limit: 10)
  7. Teaching Contributions
    Give percentage of time or weight (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100. Assigning zero to one or more qualifications will not weaken the nomination; enter "0%" or "zero weight" if it is not applicable to the nominee.). Summarize student and peer evaluations, evaluate teaching effectiveness, and contributions to undergraduate and graduate student advising. List other teaching contributions. (Character Limit: 4500)
  8. Research Contributions
    Give percentage of time or weight (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100. Assigning zero to one or more qualifications will not weaken the nomination; enter "0%" or "zero weight" if it is not applicable to the nominee.). List and evaluate basic and/or applied research activities to include development of improved cultivars, techniques, processes, practices, and/or products. List other related research activities. (Character Limit: 4500)
  9. Service and Extension Contributions
    Give percentage of time or weight (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100. Assigning zero to one or more qualifications will not weaken the nomination; enter "0%" or "zero weight" if it is not applicable to the nominee.). List service and extension-type contributions. (Character Limit: 4500)
  10. Administrative Contributions
    Give percentage of time or weight (Note: For this qualification, indicate percentages of time or weight, totaling 100.   11. Professional Contributions for the Young Crop Scientist Award
    Describe the nominee's technical or nontechnical publications, patents, and efforts to develop or improve programs, practices, and products. List up to 12 of the most significant professional contributions of the nominee. (Character Limit: 4500)
  12. Service to the Society
    List service to the Society. Include national, regional, and state activities, i.e., appointed positions, elected position, other service. (Character Limit: 3000)
  13. Membership
    List membership in professional, honorary, and academic societies. (Character Limit: 1500)
  14. Honors and Awards
    List honors and awards received (Character Limit: 3000)
  15. Evaluation
    Summarize in this section the primary contributions on which the nomination is based. Give the nominees contributions and their impact in one or more of the evaluation criteria given in the Award Description and criteria sections, clearly and explicitly (Character Limit: 3000)
