Crop Science Teaching Award

Award, Fellow, and Scholarship nominations initiated by April 09, 2013

The focus of this award is on traits that characterize excellence in resident classroom teaching of crop science at the undergraduate and graduate level. The award consists of a certificate and $1000 honorarium.


  1. Nominators are required to be members of ASA, CSSA, and/or SSSA.
  2. Nominees are required to be members of ASA, CSSA, and/or SSSA.
  3. Nominees are to be living at the time that their nominations are submitted.
  4. Teams are eligible if the following qualifications are met:
    • At least one member of the team is required to be a member of CSSA.
    • Where other disciplines are represented, the ASA, CSSA, and/or SSSA member(s) will be a major contributor (50% or more) to the team effort.
    • Only publications where all team members are authors or honors and awards received by the team will be listed. Individual efforts are to be omitted.

    Describe the influence of the nominee on the professional performance of former students. (Character Limit: 3000)
  8. Effectiveness in Counseling
    Describe the nominee's effectiveness in counseling students (i.e., concern for their educational, social, and personal welfare). (Character Limit: 3000)
  9. Program Contributions
    Describe contributions to overall undergraduate/graduate programs in a department and/or college. (Character Limit: 3000)
  10. Professional Contributions
    Describe the nominee's technical or nontechnical publications, patents, and efforts to develop or improve programs, practices, and products. List up to 12 of the most significant professional contributions of the nominee. (Character Limit: 4500)
  11. Contributions in Professional Societies
    Describe contributions in professional societies that emphasize excellence in crop science teaching. (Character Limit: 3000)
  12. Recognition of Accomplishments
    Describe recognition of accomplishments as a classroom teacher by department, college, university, or other professional group. (Character Limit: 3000)
  13. Evaluation
    Summarize in this section the primary contributions on which the nomination is based. Give the nominees contributions and their impact in one or more of the evaluation criteria given in the Award Description and criteria sections, clearly and explicitly (Character Limit: 3000)
